Pittsburgh Pirates Nails!

Today is the Pittsburgh Pirates home opener! I have pretty much been waiting for this day since baseball season ended last year. Last year was an amazing year for the Pirates, they were probably the most notable baseball story of 2013; and I am hoping they have that same kind of season in 2014 as well!

Unfortunately my husband was not able to take off of work today so I am going with one of my girlfriends who also likes baseball, so should be a fun girls day at the game.

Obviously I HAD to do a mani for the game, and I have to say that this is much bolder than I would normally go for a baseball game but it's a special one, the home opener is pretty much a big tailgate all day until the game so I could go a little crazier than normal.

Polishes Used:
-OPI - Alpine Snow
-Zoya - Pippa
-KB Shimmer - Eclipse
-Cover Band Lacquers - Sticks 'n Stones
-Acrylic Paints

This is pretty much the definition of a skittle mani; lol, which is perfect when you can't decide exactly what to do. Obviously I had to do the obligatory "baseball" nail, threw in the team logo and then did misc nails with the team colors black and yellow! My right hand is even skittled up as well. It is exactly the same as this hand with the exception of my middle finger which is black with a white zig-zag on it (no way I was going to be able to freehand the "P" with my non-dominant hand!)

Overall, I think this look is super fun for the home opener and I anticipate to get a handful of comments throughout the day.

Incase you're interested the game will be airing on ESPN and has a 1:05pm EST start time.

P.S. Non-nail related but, here are some pictures from last season

Anne Kathleen: Something Special Collection - Swatches & Review

I am excited to be sharing with you another new/upcoming collection by Anne Kathleen; the Something Special Collection. The Something Special Collection consists of 4 shimmer polishes and they are wedding themed! I am showing all 4 polishes with two coats of color and topcoat.

Cosette: A lovely white shimmer

Lana: A pretty pink shimmer

Velvet: A pretty lilac purple shimmer

Portia: A lovely sky blue shimmer

All 4 of these shades had nice coverage in two coats as you can see. As with some other shimmer polishes, you need to be careful with brush-strokes but it wasn't too noticeable. There is something very delicate and lovely about all 4 of these shades. I really like all the shades, but my favorites would have to be Lana and Portia.

The Something Special Collection comes out on April 15th, just in time for wedding season!

Don't forget:
  • Polishes are 5-Free
  • Polishes are cruelty free, and the majority of polishes are vegan (although there are a few non-vegan polishes)
  • Polishes retail for $10.00
You can find Anne Kathleen at the following locations:

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents - Untrieds - Week 4

TGIF! I am back with my final look for this month's Nail Challenge Collaborative theme, Untrieds; and I think this is my favorite of all the looks!

Polishes Used:
-Nails Inc. - William Mews (this was my untried)
-OPI - Alpine Snow
-OPI - My Vampire is Buff
-OPI - My Very First Knockwurst

The Nails Inc. was my untried shade in this look (obviously); and its a shade I picked up at Sephora earlier this year with a gift card that I got for Christmas. It is a pretty sky blue shade that had complete coverage in two coats. I love how the pastels in the waterfall contrast with the pretty cream!

Don't forget to see what the other ladies did for their final Untried Mani!

ALSO... The Nail Challenge Collaborative is now accepting new members, if you're interested, please email me with your blog link! All are welcome to apply!

I hope to see some more ladies participating in the upcoming challenges, the more the merrier!

Golden Oldie Thursday: Yellow/Peach

Today is the last day of the Q1 Golden Oldie Challenge! There will be a Q2 Challenge starting next month :) Today's them is YELLOW/PEACH; being from Pittsburgh I own my fair share of yellow polishes, and I chose my favorite to feature in this mani. (Zoya Pippa)

Polishes Used:
-Zoya - Pippa
-China Glaze - I'm Not Lion
-OPI - Alpine Snow

This look didn't turn out exactly how I had hoped, but it's not too bad. The more and more I look at it, it sort of reminds me of cheese slices; haha!!

FYI - Pittsburgh Pirate Baseball season will be starting March 31st, so I'm sure you will be seeing more and more yellow in my looks :)

Twinsie Tuesday: Winter to Spring Transition Polish

It's now Spring and the Twinsies are getting into the spirit with today's theme, Winter to Spring Transition Polish. I *think* this prompt was probably originally meant to be shades you can wear in winter and spring, but I put my own twist on it, and did some winter to spring nail art instead!

Polishes Used:
-OPI - My Boyfriend Scales Walls
-OPI - Alpine Snow
-China Glaze - Gothic Lolita
-Wet 'n Wild - On A Trip
-Hard Candy - Matte-ly in Love
-Acrylic Paints - Green, Purple, Yellow, Orange, White

When I think of Winter to Spring I always think of Crocus'. I am always seeing these pretty purple flowers pop up in my yard through the snow and always think, "no, not yet, this is Pittsburgh, it's going to snow again", but they always seem to be OK. lol. I wanted the perfect purple accent color, so I mixed up Gothic Lolita and On A Trip and got the look I wanted (after I mixed them I realized I could have probably used KB Shimmer - The Grape Beyond, although that has the subtle blue shimmer, which I wasn't looking for).

So like I said, probably not what was meant by the theme, but I don't care, I LOVE this look!

Let's see how the other Twinsie's interpreted this look and what their favorite transition polishes are:

Alaina at The Little Canvas
Amanda at Amandalandish
Chelsea at Nailed Blog
Elizabeth at Did My Nails
Kelly at Tuxarina
Lakeisha at Refined and Polished
Marisa at Polish Obsession
Rachel at Top Coat It

Barielle Vibrants for Spring 2014 - Swatches & Review

I am excited to share with you the Barielle Vibrants for Spring 2014 Collection. Most of these shades pop out at me as spring shades.

My City Apartment: A Light Gray

I am wearing two coats of My City Apartment with topcoat. This cream has a nice self leveling formula.

First Class Ticket: Sky Blue

I am wearing two coats with topcoat. This is a pretty blue cream shade and had an even self leveling formula.

Designer Shoes: A purple with blueish tones

I am wearing two coats with topcoat. As with the other shades, this had a nice self leveling formula and is completely opaque in 2 coats.

Money Talks: A Mint Green

I am wearing two coats with top coat. This minty / teal shade has been popping up in lots of spring collections and I can see why; it's just the perfect springy shade!

Fire Me Up: A deep, fiery bright orange

I am wearing two coats with topcoat. This shade isn't a cream, it is almost a crelly cream polish. A different type to add to the collection.

Take Me Shopping: A bright, hot pink

I am wearing two coats with top coat. This is another crelly cream shade, to me, I would describe this more of a hot red / pink than a bright pink; either way it's still a super pretty shade.

So, the big question, which of these shades is your favorite? If I had to pick I think I would choose First Class Ticket, or Take Me Shopping.
