PRESS RELEASE: CHINA GLAZE CHECK MATE

CHECK MATE
China Glaze® Creates a Bold Graphic Design for Opening Ceremony Spring/Summer 2016 at New York Fashion Week

Los Angeles (September 2015) – Presented in an idyllic garden setting, the China Glaze® designed nails at Opening Ceremony’s Spring/Summer 2016 New York Fashion Week runway show were a bold juxtaposition and created an eye-catching element equally as noticeable as the surprise performance by ballerinas walking the show.

On Sunday, Sept. 13, Opening Ceremony presented its Spring/Summer 2016 collection with its “The Living City” runway show. Drawing on eclectic cultural influences, the collection was accented by a bold checkerboard nail design created by China Glaze® Nail Artist Naomi Yasuda. Replicating a print on key pieces within the collection, Yasuda mixed China Glaze® classic neutral crèmes including rich black Liquid Leather, crisp crème White on White, and nude What’s She Dune? with bright crèmes like sunlit red-orange The Heat Is On; bright yellow Happy Go Lucky; burnt coral Life Preserver; and dusty navy First Mate to create a color blocked manicure that stood out as models walked the runway in an empty building on Wall Street. Yasuda describes the inspiration:
“For the nails at the Opening Ceremony show, I was inspired by a checkered pattern featured in the collection.  I really loved the pattern and its retro feel, but wanted it to have modern twist so I chose to create it with neutrals like black, white and a beautiful beige from China Glaze®.  I then added a pop of color with the red, yellow and orange which all perfectly matched the clothing. The design is bold, modern and really wearable.”

To create the design, Yasuda first painted the nails with the base color such as China Glaze® White on White or Life Preserver. She then painted Scotch tape with two coats of the secondary color. Once dry, Yasuda cut the tape into small, even squares and applied individually in the checkerboard pattern to the nail, finishing the design with one coat of Seche® Vite™ dry fast top coat.

Los Angeles (September 2015) – When one of fashion’s most daring designers partners with China Glaze® Nail Lacquer and the My Little Pony franchise, the look is sure to be a rainbow riot. Color abound at the DEGEN presentation during Spring/Summer 2016 New York Fashion Week.  China Glaze® nailed the look as models showcased their eclectic manicures in shades hand-selected by the designer Lindsay Degen in collaboration with lead manicurist Casey Herman to complement her fun and funky creations.

On Monday, Sept. 14, models showcased DEGEN’s latest collection wearing a variety of custom-made China Glaze® nails inspired by My Little Pony and applied by Herman and team. Herman created a stable full of different design combinations for using a mix of core China Glaze® shades including You Drive Me Coconuts, a bright pink jelly, and vibrant royal blue Sky-High Top for the Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash eyes that accented each manicure, respectively. Other colours used included a rainbow of core China Glaze® shades including:
  • Sun Upon My Skin – soft yellow crème
  • Home Sweet House Music – neon orange crème
  • Pop the Trunk – bright red-orange crème
  • Don’t Mesa with My Heart – vibrant violet pink crème
  • Lotus Begin – neon purple crème
  • At Vase Value – bright baby blue crème
  • Grass is Lime Greener – neon lime crème
  • Snow – crisp white crème
  • Liquid Leather – rich black crème

Just as with the hair and makeup looks for the show, the nails were loaded with a variety of glitter polishes for extra sparkle including It’s a Trap-Eze, a milky white base loaded with multi-colour glitter; opalescent hex glitter Make a Spectacle; and best selling holographic micro glitter Fairy Dust. Herman describes the inspiration:
“I always love partnering with China Glaze® and DEGEN for NYFW as I know the nails are going to be unique, challenging and, most of all, fun! This season was no different. My goal was to bring to life designer Lindsay Degen’s collaboration with My Little Pony through the nails which were a mixture of all things girly and bright – rainbows, cupcakes, flowers, glitter and of course loads of color which China Glaze® does so well. Each model had a variety of designs accented by the eyes of either Pinkie Pie or Rainbow Dash My Little Pony and their respective ‘cutie marks’”.

PRESS RELEASE: CHINA GLAZE® GIVES A WASH OF IRIDESCENCE TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK WAVE WITH CLOVER CANYON

CHINA GLAZE® GIVES A WASH OF IRIDESCENCE TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK WAVE WITH CLOVER CANYON

(The finished China Glaze® manicure at the Clover Canyon show; Photos courtesy of ©MatthewCarasella/SocialShutterbug.com; OK for Reprint)

Los Angeles (September 2015) – On Wednesday, Sept. 16, China Glaze® Nail Lacquer partnered once again with celebrity manicurist Casey Herman as lead nail artist at contemporary fashion brand Clover Canyon presented its Spring/Summer 2016 collection during Spring/Summer 2016 New York Fashion Week. Cascading flowers, laser cut dresses and a bouquet of color were complemented with a wash of iridescence using the classic China Glaze® shade, Rainbow.

Design Inspiration:
Designing a nail look to go with a collection filled with modern designs that still had a vintage vibe, Herman knew the manicure needed to be timeless. “The Clover Canyon collection is so colorful so we wanted a shade that would give the nails a clean, fresh, almost luminescent finish to complement the clothing. China Glaze® Rainbow is such a soft, pretty shade and looked beautiful on every skin tone. Just one coat was all it took for the perfect finished look.”

Herman and her team kept the nails simple yet beautiful, first cleaning, shaping and lightly buffing each models’ nails before applying a thin coat of China Glaze® Rainbow. The lacquer’s sheer Mother of Pearl finish flattered a variety of skin tones, and leant an elegant balance to the bright bursts of purple, pink, green and blue in the designs.

China Glaze® Product Used:

Fast Freeze Quick Dry Spray

How To:

China Glaze: Desert Escape Collection Swatches & Review

*Press Sample

Happy Tuesday! I hope that all my US readers had a lovely Memorial Day. Today I'll be sharing with you the 6 fun colors of the China Glaze Desert Escape Collection.

Don’t Mesa With My Heart: Vibrant violet pink crème

What’s She Dune?: Tranquil sandy beige crème

Don’t Desert Me: Intense fuchsia pearl shimmer

The Heat Is On: Sunlit red-orange crème

Rain Dance the Night Away: Bright turquoise crème

Meet Me in the Mirage: Brilliant rose gold metallic shimmer

All swatches are shown with two coats of polish plus topcoat.

Even though this is a smaller collection, I really like that it contains a variety of shades and finishes as well. I found the formulas to be self leveling and no issues with the application at all. Generally I like the formulas on China Glaze polishes and these were no different. If you like China Glaze, you'll like this mini collection for sure.

You can find the full set at LockAndMane.com and mini sets containing 3 polishes and a nail art item (either striping polish or nail/body tattoos) at Sallys in June. You can find out more information on the kits HERE

Which of these shades is your favorite? Will you be picking up any or all from this collection?

-Stephanie
