OMG LED Nail Decal Review

A couple months ago I reviewed nail decal strips from OMG, and when they recently contacted me about trying out their new LED Nail Decals I was intrigued.

The LED decal itself is a whole nail sticky strip with the LED embedded. The directions from OMG are fairly simple as well:

1. Clean Nails and apply a base coat.
2. Peel LED nail strip off the protective backing. Apply the curved end of the LED decal as close as possible to the cuticle edge. You may need to trim the LED strip to size if you have shorter nails.
3. Use a nail file to file off the excess sticker, careful not to damage the chip. Apply nail polish over the chip leaving the LED exposed.
4. Place one of the sticker decals over the chip with the center of the decal over the LED.
5. Apply a clear coat.

So here is the simple look that I created with the decals:

 

I went really simple with this one, a simple pink and floral look. I didn't have any pictures of this particular look lit up, so I photoshopped this one.

It's pretty cool how these decals light up and I have to admit that I was showing it off around the office. I also loved how they came with the design decals to place over the chip to 1. cover it and 2. spice up the look.

When using the decals, keep in mind that the strip is thicker than the normal OMG strips as it has to be thick enough to house the electronic component, you can see some slight wrinkling in my pictures. Also, the LED is slightly large so if you have small nail beds, you will definitely need to trim it down and perhaps even trim the top decal as well.

So funny story. When I got the decals I was all excited, I knew that android phones and phones with Apple Pay had NFC fields so I ripped open the decals held them to my phone and nothing... lol. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why they weren't working, they were shipped when we were having super cold weather so I thought maybe they were damaged in the cold weather, so I emailed OMG. They politely told me that NFC is a setting on your phone that you have to TURN ON. LOL. Oh man, DUH! I was laughing at my user-error on that one, but must say that OMG was super quick to respond, so awesome customer even when dealing with user-error.

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents - Geometric - Look 2

Last week I saw THIS look by @hookedondal on Instagram and immediately knew that I had to re-create it for the Nail Challenge Collaborative. (P.S. if you don't follow Dallas on IG already, you should!) There is a simple edginess and geometric feel to this which I loved.

I started with natural nails, used some straight nail decals and applied the grey polish; topped it all off with topcoat and voila! I am completely obsessed with how this turned out; and am still loving the negative space mani trend.

KB Shimmer - Nail Vinyl Decals

As I mentioned last week, KB Shimmer has released Nail Vinyl Decals with their Late Summer 2014 Collection release. Nail Decals are all the rage and today I will be sharing with you two different looks that I created with the decals.

Both of these style decals were really easy to use. I did the first look with a nude base the second with a polish base and you can see that both produced really crisp lines.

The instructions for use with these decals are very simple as well:

1)         Apply nail polish and allow nails to dry. Wait longer then you think to assure no smudging occurs when vinyl decal is applied and removed. If desired, apply quick dry top coat to quicken dry time.

2)       Peel away vinyl stencil from paper backing. Some designs may require ‘weeding’  (removal of excess components). Use a tweezers to help with small pieces.

3)       Nail vinyl’s tend to be very sticky, apply to your hand first, remove, and apply to your hand one more time before placing on the nail. This allows your natural oils to reduce some of the strength of the adhesive.

4)       Place stencil onto your nail in desired location and press firmly. Make sure all edges are firmly touching the nail on the nail so polish does not bleed under vinyl decal.

5)       Apply a different color polish onto your nail and over the vinyl decal like a stencil.

6)       While the polish is wet, remove the decal stencil. Wait no more then 15-20 seconds before removing, or the polish may pull up with the decal stencil.

7)       Apply a clear top-coat to seal in the design.

Vinyl Nail Decals from Lacquer by Lissa

Today I'm sharing with you some Vinyl Nail Decals from Lacquer by Lissa. As you know, Melissa, of Lacquer by Lissa lives in the same city as me and I love supporting local indies! I was so excited when this package arrived! Melissa is really taking off with her polishes and I love that she has now expanded to decals, very on trend.

How cute were those?! I don't normally use a lot of nail decals, but they are a super easy way to dress up a simple mani or just add a little something extra to any nail art look.

There are a lot of designs for the Vinyl Nail Decals that can be purchased from Lacquer by Lissa; over 20 different designs; and they come in a variety of colors! Melissa can also create custom decals if you're looking for a specific look.

The directions for use of the decals is very simple:
1. Wait until base color is completely dry
2. Gently pick up a sticker using tweezers and line it up where you want it on your nail
3. When you are satisfied with the position, make sure all sides are flat on the nail
4. Seal the design with top coat
5. Enjoy your new nail art!

The Nail Challenge Collaborative Presents - Summer - Week 1

Now that it's February, it's time for a new Nail Challenge Collaborative theme and this time it's SUMMER. I don't think any of us were surprised that summer was voted the theme this month as a lot of us girls have been getting hit with cold and dreary winter weather. Who isn't looking forward to summer?

For this summer themed look I wanted to do something bright and cheery and I decided to try Stamping Decals! For my first attempt it was not too bad, unfortunately I didn't realize how much the decals would smear when I put on the top coat to apply them. I tried to touch up the smearing on the white part with a little white paint and my striper brush, but I couldn't really touch up the flowers. Overall, not too bad but I will definitely be taking that into consideration if I make more decals in the future.
