Twinsie Tuesday: Favorite Sports Team

This week's Twinsie Tuesday theme is right up my ally! Favorite Sports Team! If you have been following me for anytime, and especially on Twitter or Instagram, I'm sure you can guess my favorite sports team, the Pittsburgh Pirates!

I've done a lot of Pittsburgh themed manicures in the past, you can check them out here and also a really fun Pirates look from the Home Opener, seen here. So today I decided to just do a look inspired by the colors, Black & Gold.

I LOVE that this look has a team colors feel without being in your face baseball nails. Only 4.5 months to go until baseball season is back, although my Netflix queue has been loving that I'm free in the evenings now...

Twinsie Tuesday: Favorite Glitter Topper

It's time for Twinsie Tuesday again; and this week's theme is Favorite Glitter Topper. It took me a while to pick a polish for this prompt because lately I have not been interested in glitter toppers, my heart currently belongs to creams, but finally the perfect topper came to mind.

My favorite glitter topper is Lacquer by Lissa - Yinzer.

I think you can see why this is my favorite glitter topper, it's a Pittsburgh polish!!! I love that Lacquer by Lissa is a hometown indie maker, but also in Pittsburgh, Black & Yellow are seasonal all year long! Also, as I have mentioned in the past, Yinzer has nice application and good coverage in just one coat. (The above pictures only show one coat of glitter)

Pittsburgh Pirates Nails!

Today is the Pittsburgh Pirates home opener! I have pretty much been waiting for this day since baseball season ended last year. Last year was an amazing year for the Pirates, they were probably the most notable baseball story of 2013; and I am hoping they have that same kind of season in 2014 as well!

Unfortunately my husband was not able to take off of work today so I am going with one of my girlfriends who also likes baseball, so should be a fun girls day at the game.

Obviously I HAD to do a mani for the game, and I have to say that this is much bolder than I would normally go for a baseball game but it's a special one, the home opener is pretty much a big tailgate all day until the game so I could go a little crazier than normal.

Polishes Used:

-Acrylic Paints

This is pretty much the definition of a skittle mani; lol, which is perfect when you can't decide exactly what to do. Obviously I had to do the obligatory "baseball" nail, threw in the team logo and then did misc nails with the team colors black and yellow! My right hand is even skittled up as well. It is exactly the same as this hand with the exception of my middle finger which is black with a white zig-zag on it (no way I was going to be able to freehand the "P" with my non-dominant hand!)

Overall, I think this look is super fun for the home opener and I anticipate to get a handful of comments throughout the day.

Black and Gold Stripes - Pittsburgh Themed Nails

Today is the 3rd game in the NLDS and the Pirates are battling the Cards at home. Since the series is currently tied 1-1, and I am pretty much still down and out with this flu (Saturday literally all I did was run to Target to get medicine and slept all day) we ended up selling our tickets to today's game. We will be attending tomorrow's game and hopefully it will be the last of the series with the Pirates winning and moving on to the NLCS; we shall see.

Anyway, I wore these nails last Thursday and got lots of compliments on them. It was a Pirates and  Penguins day so these were multi-purpose.

For this look I simply used OPI Alpine Snow as a base and then added black and gold stripes with my striping polishes! It was super easy to create, although the more I thought about it it probably would have been easier to just use a gold glittery base and only have to add the black stripes. Oh well.

Since I wore this mani to the Pen's game, here is a photo of my friend Amanda and I before the game started. It was their home opener and we made it onto the big-screen!!

Pittsburgh Sports Themed Nails

Oh my goodness; I don't know if any of my lovely readers are baseball fans, but I know that some of you are Pittsburgh fans. If you have been following my blog, you know that my husband and I are Pittsburgh Pirates season ticket holders, yep, all 81 games. This season has been especially exciting and for the first time in 21 years, my team is in the #Postseason (#buctober, #absobucnlutely, #rtjr)

Anyway, you will be seeing more Pittsburgh themed nails from me in the next couple of weeks, with the Pirates beating the Reds on Tuesday night, we officially are in the first series and I will be rocking black and yellow nails for it! Also, if you like hockey, the Pittsburgh Penguins home opener is tonight and yep, I'm going to be there.

Here are the nails that I was going to wear on Tuesday's wildcard game (although I ended up taking them off and wearing black, since they were calling for a blackout)

Of course I put all my polishes away before I wrote down what I used (if you really want to know the colors, let me know and I will dig them out; sorry, bad blogger). As with the nail art I showed you earlier in the week, these were also inspired by a MrCandiipants youtube tutorial.

Lacquer by Lissa - Polish Review; Yinzer and Here We Go

TGIF!! I have had a long and stressful work week so I am glad that it is finally the weekend. Today I am lucky enough to share with you two polishes from Lacquer by Lissa, a local Pittsburgh Indie polish maker.

Before I get to the shades, here is what Melissa, of Lacquer by Lissa, had to say about her brand. "I founded Lacquer by Lissa in June 2013. I have always loved nail polish and I discovered indie polish in one of the Facebook groups I was in. I was completely amazed by all of the different colors and glitters and one day I decided I wanted to do it myself. I use a 3-free base as well as the best solvent resistant glitters I can find. All of the polish is mixed in small batches and poured to order by me. All of my polish is $8.25 each and I also offer an option to pick 3 colors for $22.00 or Mystery Grab Bags for $20.00. I am located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania so I like to do a lot of colors inspired by my city. So far I have Iceberg (Stephanie's comment: you can see my swatch of Iceberg here), Yinzer and Here We Go that are all Pittsburgh inspired."

So anyway, onto the polishes!

Yinzer:

Melissa describes this polish as, "This polish is a clear base with a mix of different shaped and sized black, yellow and white glitter suspended inside. Among the glitter you will find bars, hexes and rectangles." I am wearing ONE coat of Yinzer with Sinful Colors - Slate as my base. This a glitter bomb and I was surprised how much glitter I got out in just one coat!

Here We Go:

Melissa describes this polish as, "This polish is a black jelly base with matte red, yellow and blue squares suspended inside. You can build this polish up with 3 coats, or just use a black base coat and use one coat of Here We Go. This was inspired by the Steelers emblem which is red, yellow and blue diamonds". I chose to use 3 coats to build this up and I love the dimension that this gives!! I have topped Here We Go with one coat of Out The Door.

Lacquer by Lissa also threw in a Conditioning Cuticle Balm. These are not yet currently being sold in her shop but she will be launching them with her Halloween Collection, and the first scent she plans to sell is Pumpkin Pie! Perfect! She sent me Fairytale which reminds me of a nice fresh melon scent. She is also currently running a promotion that each order will be getting a complimentary Peppermint Cuticle Balm while supplies last.

The Cuticle Balm comes in a nice chap-stick type container which is very nice for ease of application. The balm is made of Beeswax, Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter and Fragrance.

What I Wore - Pirates Game Nails

Happy Monday! I am back with the long awaited second edition of "What I Wore" lol. Anyway, on Friday my husband and I went to the Pittsburgh Pirates [baseball] game. Now if you know us, you will know that we are full season ticket holders so going to a game is nothing special for us, however, since we do go a lot, I rarely do "Pittsburgh" themed nails, but this past Friday, I did, and here there are :)

I was planning on using black and white to stamp with over this lime leaning yellow, but I let my husband pick the stamping image and he picked these fun arrows. I picked up Ladies in the Limelight from my local Big Lots for only $1.00! It was a little thin so I am wearing 3 coats, but it is completely smoothed out and fully opaque.

What I Wore [on my nails] - Pittsburgh Pirates Home Opener

Happy Monday!

I am thinking about putting together a little "What I Wore [on my nails]" segment. I often to do mani's for holidays or events and don't get around to posting them until after the fact. From now on, those posts will be "What I Wore [on my nails]". I hope you like it!

Last Monday, April 1st, was the Pittsburgh Pirates Home Opener. My husband and I are season ticket holders to the Pirates, so we have the luxury of being able to go to all 81 home games this season, should we like to (sidenote: no way will I be going to anywhere near that number of games).

Anyway, I didn't have much time the night before (on Easter) so I did a nice simple mani for the game (unfortunately it may have been bad luck because it was cold, snowy, and we lost; but that's ok; the opener is always fun).

Polishes Used:

-Liquid Lacquer - Little Bow Tied Men

-No Time

I have to admit, I didn't really like this mani; for some reason the shimmer whiteness of the LBTM just didn't look right to me over Pippa; however, I showed this to some of my Pittsburgh Polish friends and they didn't think it was as bad as I thought, so maybe its just one of those things. 

This is going to be short and sweet, but you can expect to see more Pittsburgh themed mani's this year as always, and hopefully more "What I Wore [on my nails]" segments as well if you like them (so let me know!)
